Our story

For years we talked about owning our bagel company. Finally in January 2020 we took a bagel making class to begin a slow, eventual journey into the bagel making business. Then the pandemic hit, and like much of the world, it brought us many challenges both personally and professionally. But it also brought us an unexpected opportunity (you can see where this is going, right?).

With more free time than we’d ever have in our adult life, we took our new and limited bagel knowledge and just started rolling, boiling, baking (and ruining quite a few) bagels. But we got better with time. We used the bagels as an excuse to see our other locked-down friends, even if it was just waving at them through the window, and deliver them a small gift. It turns out they thought our bagels were pretty good!

What started out to be a weekend hobby during the pandemic is now something we are pursuing full-time, with the hopes of opening up our own shop on the west side of Los Angeles!

Our recipe

We were inspired by Montreal style bagels recipes and have crafted our own “California bungalow style bagel”, AKA we make them by hand from our little bungalow in Santa Monica.

Each bagel is hand rolled, boiled in honey and barley malt then baked to perfection. Chewy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. We offer several varieties and take the utmost pride and care when crafting our homemade bagels.

Who is Rosie?

We named our company Rosie’s after our one-eyed rescue puppy. Rosie was only a few weeks old when she was found alone in Mexico with an injury that left her with only one eye. But don’t tell her, she doesn’t let her stop her from living her best life! We think Rosie is the perfect analogy for the creation of our company. We want to take a negative situation and turn it into a positive and unique experience for everyone.
